Father's Day Prayer

The role of a father is crucial and so a great way to pray for our husbands is to pray for them as fathers. The following prayer is taken straight out of my book and is a great launching pad to pray for our life mates as they parent children of all ages. If your husband is not yet a father - is isn't to early to pray this in future tense or pray this for the "spiritual children" he might be mentoring right now.

Abba, thank You for being the ultimate Father. While I know my husband will never be perfect (as You are), I pray that he would model Your love to our children. Grant him wisdom, patients, and guidance as he journeys the path of parenthood. In a world where children are losing their innocence for too early, I pray that he would be their protector and shield. Lord, please show him how to discipline them wisely while loving them unconditionally. Though his words and actions, may they never question his love or Your love. Impress upon his heart the importance of his irreplaceable role as a father, and may be take that role very seriously. May he never raise his voice in anger or his hand in violence or lack of self-control. Please help my husband never exasperate his children; instead, may he bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). I pray that our as our children grow older he can develop a true friendship with them and earn their respect. If my husband is not a father, I pray that he would be a spiritual father to many, finding young men that he can mentor in Your ways (2 Timothy 2:1-2). I ask all of these things in the name of Your Son. Amen.
