- Keeps me and my prayers in God's will. It helps keep my flesh out of my prayers because I know what I'm asking for is in the will of God. As 1 John 5:14-15 says, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of Him."
- Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God's Word is living and active... that is certainly true when we read it, but it is equally as true when we pray it. By praying God's Word we are giving the Holy Spirit another venue in which to work and move. He will have a greater reach into our lives and into the lives of those we are praying for if we use Scriptures to guide our prayers.
- It helps us articulate the feelings we have inside of us. For example, I might be needing to repent and starting out by praying Psalm 51 can help me describe how I are feeling and then I can continue with spontaneous prayer after that.
- It helps us apply God's Word to today's society. For me personally, it is hard for me to sit down, read the Bible, and come away with any great insights. However, if I read the Bible and think of how to pray those Words over my life and over my husband's life... then I can see how what I'm reading can be applied to my everyday life which helps me walk in obedience.
Earlier this week, I typed up simple prayers using Bible verses for some friends to help us as we faithfully pray for certain situations in our lives. This is not an exhaustive list by any means, but is merely a starting point in a few areas in which are common prayer needs. I thought I would post it here too as a tool for you as you pray for yourself and those you love. Perhaps your husband could use a few of these verses spoken over his life right now. These are only a few themes below, but rest assured that you can find specific Scriptures to help whatever situation you and/or your husband might be in!
Be blessed as you pray God's Word today!
