An Important Prayer

I recently saw this sign on pinterest and I love it because it is so true (at least for this drama queen). I can't even begin to count the number of times I have thought something or said something that really came out of nowhere. The only rationale is that I was simply being ridiculous. This plaque certainly contains some good advice for both friendships and marriage.

However, it helped me recall the (very few) times I was not being ridiculous and something was not right. In marriage this can sometimes be hard to gauge and I have to ask myself, "Are my feelings hurt and so I'm overreacting or is there something negative going on in my husband's life?" A few years ago, I began to pray this prayer whenever an inner conflict would arise,

"Lord, is this something I need to be concerned about?"

The Lord knows the heart of my husband and so taking my questions and concerns directly to Him is very freeing when I begin to fret. He is so gracious and merciful when He responds that it makes me fall even more in love with Him. In our seven plus years of marriage, there has only be one time where the Lord answered this question with a "Yes." Every other time, the Lord lovingly shows me that all is well.

As praying wives, we want to know how best to fight for our man in prayer. We live in a fallen world and each of us are married to a fallible man, and so there are going to be times when he will be wounded on the battle field. Asking the Lord to make clear to us what we need to be concerned about will equip us as prayer warriors and will prove beneficial to our wonderful life-mates. This prayer will also help separate the times that there is a heart issue going on in our man's life and the other times when we are simply being ridiculous. :)

Are there any questions you ask the Lord in order to better gauge how your husband is doing emotionally or spiritually?
